The Surajpur Wetland is located next to Surajpur Village in Dadri Tehsil, District Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, under the Western Wildlife Circuit of the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority. At an elevation of 184.7 meters above mean sea level, the region is situated between latitudes 280 31.425′ N and longitude 770 29.714′ E. 800 meters from Delhi-Noida-Dadri Road, 6 kilometers from Dadri Railway Station, 26 kilometers from Delhi, 90 kilometers from Aligarh, 24 kilometers from Noida City, and 3 kilometers from Greater Noida City, Uttar Pradesh, are the locations of the wetland. The Gulistanpur Forest Block and Khodna Khurd Forest Block, which make up this reserve forest, span 308 hec (3.08 km2), of which 60 hec (0.60 km2) are naturally occurring wetlands. Despite the track’s division of the region into deep marsh areas and flat terrestrial forms, the landscape is essentially plain. The lake region features tropical moist and dry deciduous plants together with fine, magnificent soil known as lacoustrine soil (Champion & Seth, 1968). The casement area of the Hawalia drain, which is connected to the Hindan River, and the irrigation canal of Tilapta minor, which rises from the Kulesra Bund Hindan River, are additional sources of water replenishment for the Surajpur wetland. The wetland is mostly nourished by rainfall.

One of the best examples of an urban wetland in the Yamuna River basin is Surajpur. Waterfowl including Spot-billed Duck, Lesser-whistling Duck, Cotton Pygmy Goose, Comb Duck, and Red-crested Pochard, Ferruginous Pochard, Bar-headed Goose, Greylag Goose, Common Teal, Northern Shoveler, and Gadwall find it to be an ideal breeding place.

Since 2010, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority, the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department, and WWF-India have worked together to conduct a project for the planning, development, and conservation of the Surajpur wetland. As such, they are working together to turn the desolate environment back into a bustling bird refuge. As a result, the wetland provides a special illustration of how to preserve biodiversity close to metropolitan areas.
