Kareri Lake Trek

Kareri Lake Trek

January 4, 2023 0 By chalchaleinindia

At a height of 2934 meters, Kareri Lake is a shallow freshwater lake that receives its water from the Himalayan Dhauladhar range’s melting snow. The lake is situated in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district. Wintertime sees the lake frozen from December to March. You can even see the lake’s bed since the water is so transparent. On the lakeside, there is also a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti.

Trekking around Kareri Lake is becoming more and more popular because it’s a stunning journey surrounded by mountains and alpine trees. The rocky, well-elevated trail follows the stream of water that emerges from Kareri Lake. The hikers don’t need to carry water bottles because they can get their water from this creek. The trail is primarily steep, but there are also areas of wide rock fields, grasslands, and lush forests along the climb, making it a somewhat mixed experience. Many naturally formed ponds have been formed in the water stream; some of these ponds are so deep that you could dare someone to take a plunge in them since the water is so cold.

Kareri Lake serves as the starting point for other treks, such as the ones that lead to Bharmour and Chamba via the Baleni and Minkani Passes. If you intend to travel to Baleni Pass and Minkani Pass, you will enter the Dhauladhar.

Why this trek should be in your bucket list?

A view of the Dhauladhar ranges, a high-altitude lake, the home of Himalyan birds and animals, little ponds, lush forest, meadows, and rocky mountains are just a few of the trek’s various flavors. You’ll be preparing your own dinner while camping beneath a billion stars. This walk is perfect for individuals who enjoy the outdoors. If you are an avid photographer and want to capture breathtaking views of the Milky Way, stars, and galaxies, this place is a photographer’s dream come true. This is the location for you if you enjoy being in the water and would like to enjoy some fun at a waterfall.

What is the Best Time to visit?

The trek’s difficulty rating ranges from moderate to difficult, depending on when you attempt it. Since May and June are thought to be safe months to travel, most hikers arrive during these times. People avoid the months of July through September because of the high likelihood of rain, which makes the hike more challenging and dangerous. You may have to cross the water several times, which is sometimes not possible. The lake is frozen throughout the winter, making the final portion of the walk very difficult and slick. Plan accordingly, then.

The optimum times to visit are thought to be May through June and September through October.

The best months to watch frozen are December to March.

How to reach Kareri Lake?

Duration: 3 Days from Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh

Mode: Trekking

Day 1

The first place to start the day is the now motorable Kareri Village. You can begin your trip from Kareri Village, and by the end of the day, you should arrive in Rititi, which will act as your base for Kareri. Camp there and spend the night. Rioti is a little meadow in the middle of nowhere that is encircled by mountains.

Note: While you can go from Kareri Village to Kareri Lake in a single day, it will be exhausting and busy, and you might not get to see the beauty of the area. For this reason, we always advise staying in Kareri for an additional night.

Day 2

When you reach the halfway point and your body is at ease, you can begin the hike a little later, at eight or ten, whichever time works best for you. However, if you want to witness the dawn, rise early. You will arrive at the hilltop around dusk, where you may set up your tents and enjoy the sunset. Now that you’ve arrived in Kareri with a decent amount of daylight, you can explore the lake from several perspectives.

Day 3

This morning, get going early, and begin your descent after sunrise if you’d like to see the sunrise. Please take your time; you will arrive to Kareri Village before 2:00 pm or possibly 12:00 noon. Thus, go slowly and have fun. Once you arrive at Kareri Village, you can carry out your remaining plans.
