The Ganga, the most sacred river in India, joins the Indo-Gangetic plains at Haridwar, often known as the “gateway to gods,” one of the most revered pilgrimages in the country. Haridwar, a city filled with temples and ashrams and nestled at the base of the Himalayas, exudes a devout aura that permeates the entire area. Every twelve years, millions of Hindu pilgrims congregate in the sacred Indian city of Haridwar for the Kumbh Mela, one of the four holiest sites in the country. This is where the Ardh Kumbh is held every six years. Every year during the rainy season, it also hosts the Kanwar mela. The five pilgrimages that are part of the Haridwar perimeter are known as the “Panch Tirth,” and they are Neel Parvat (Chandi Devi), Gangadwara (Har Ki Pauri), Kushwart (Ghat), and Kankhal. Haridwar serves as the gateway to the Char Dham of Uttarakhand as well.

Haridwar is a historic city with deep roots in Vedic culture and customs. It is home to numerous organizations that teach traditional wellness expertise. You can visit any of the numerous accredited Ayurvedic clinics in Haridwar to learn more and get a taste of the traditional therapeutic techniques. Ayurvedic, yoga, and meditation programs are also available in ashrams. The joyful Ganga aarti, which takes place on the ghats (stepped banks of a river) of the River Ganga every morning and evening, draws pilgrims and tourists. The evening ritual is more common, and it’s a captivating sight to witness the river being worshipped with tall lamps illuminating the darkening waters and loud, rhythmic chants.
