Triund is a stunning expanse of grassland located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India, at an elevation of 2850 meters. Triund offers breathtaking views of the Kangra Valley on one side and the Dhauladhar Range’s towering peaks on the other. The Triund Trek offers you the wonderful experience of mountain trekking even if it is not as challenging as other high altitude treks. Trekking to the triund is the most popular activity in Mcleod Gunj, drawing visitors from all over the world.

A thick grove of oak and devdar trees is traversed by the triund trail. You can set up camp on a large grassy area at the trail’s conclusion. At the summit, there is a wonderful view of the dusk and dawn accompanied by the cold winds of the Dhauladhar Peaks that will calm your spirit. Photographers who practice photographing the sunset and sunrise will undoubtedly produce some amazing images.

For hikers heading to the snow line or the Lahesh Caves, which leads to the Iderahar Pass, the walk acts as a base camp. Nearly anyone with a moderate level of fitness can complete the one-day hike. You can try astrophotography and get a look of the billion-star galaxy at night.

What is the Best Time to visit?

With the exception of January, when there is a lot of snowfall, and July and August, when there is a lot of rain, the trek is simple and accessible practically all year round. If you intend to undertake this journey during the winter or monsoon, make sure before you go; otherwise, it is always accessible.

April end to July beginning: The hike is simple, and the weather is nice. Light woolen clothing is especially useful at night.

July and August: The trek is considerably greener, but depending on the weather, you can experience strong rains that force the local authorities to close it.

September through November: Once again, ideal weather and a convenient location, albeit the temperature may drop a little bit.

December through April: This walk requires carrying heavy woolen clothing because the location is in a freezing zone during the winter. Snow makes the walk a little slick, so hiring a guide will be wise.

How to reach Triund?

Duration: Two days and one Night from Mcleod Gunj (Dharamshala), Himachal Pradesh

Mode: Trekking

There are two ways for triund from mcleod gunj.

  1. The majority of tourists choose this route since it is quite simple and scenic, passing via the Dharamkot, Gallu Temple, and Triund.
  2. Although a little challenging, some individuals find this approach to be a shortcut. The order is as follows: Mcleod Gunj, Bhagsu Nag, Shiva Café, Triund. But this approach is very worthwhile and provides a unique experience. We can only advise you to try this route while you’re on your way back and only with a guide.

Let’s say that we follow the first trail. This magnificent trek begins at McLeod Gunj. It is roughly 9 km, although you can cut it short by driving to the Gallu Temple or Dharamkot. The hike from Dharamkot is roughly 6 km long, of which 2 km are through lush woodland that takes you to the Gallu Temple. There are two routes from Dharamkot to Gallu Temple: one is motorable and the other is via a mountain trail. If you have time and want to enjoy the trail, we suggest taking the motorable route; if not, you are free to forgo this portion of the trip and explore it on the way back.

Since most tourists arrived at Gallu Temple by car, it is essentially the primary beginning point of this walk. You will need to register for the forest when you begin your hike, and there is no fee for doing so. Ensure that nothing containing alcohol or other materials is there, as the forest department inspects it frequently. There will be people on the well-defined journey, so you can just follow the route to the summit without the need for a guide.

Our Recommendation for your journey?

  1. For any hike, it’s best to get going early in the morning.
  2. Things like water and basic food are accessible at the top, but the price will be double. Despite this, don’t complain. It is quite difficult to transport that equipment there.
  3. If you can, pick up a water bottle and some chocolates (such as Snickers, Perk, or many of them) from McLeod Gunj to help save money.
  4. Chocolates will support your energy retention during your hike.
  5. A simple first aid kit is a great idea.
  6. During the winter, wear thick socks and heavy wool clothing.
