Panch Kedar Dham Legend

Legend has it that the Pandava princes, who are the protagonists of the Hindu epic Mahabharata, were counseled to worship Lord Shiva in Uttarakhand as retribution for the war’s bloodshed, according to the epic. According to tradition, Bhima, one of the five Pandava brothers, recognized Lord Shiva when he was hiding from them by assuming the form of a buffalo. After being acknowledged, the god vanished and appeared in five distinct Himalayan locales. Each of these locations is purportedly devoted to a different aspect of the Lord: Kedarnath, which is Lord Shiva’s hump; Madhmaheshwar, which is His belly button; Tungnath, which is His arms; Rudranath, which is His face; and Kalpeshwar, which is His jata, or hair.
