A hidden jewel of Himachal Pradesh, Parashar Lake combines mystery, legend, and adventure. The tranquil view of the lake, which is framed by the Dhauladhar Ranges, is just what the soul needs to release the stresses and anxieties of daily existence.

Located 49 kilometers north of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Parashar Lake is 2,730 meters above sea level. The majority of the 93% water in the lake comes from rainfall or runoff from glaciers. The enigmatic floating island makes up the remaining 7%. Lake L has a radius of 1.5 kilometers, meaning that its area is roughly 2.5 acres. The lake, which overlooks River Beas and is surrounded by captivating snow-capped mountains, is revered as a representation of the beauty of the natural world. The lake is located at the highest point in the Mandi area, providing a view of the Sutlej River heading southward.

One of the lake’s most intriguing features is the floating island. Approximately 21% of the lake’s area is made up of the island, and the other 79% is made up of water. It’s important to note that this is the same percentage that land and water make up Earth. The idea that the lake is the planet’s microcosm, with the floating island serving as its axis of revolution, has been one of the things keeping the tourists on the edge of their seats. In the morning, the island drifts eastward, and by the evening, it has reached the west. The locals continue by stating that a disaster will occur when the island stops floating.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Depending on what time of year works best for them, different individuals visit the Lake. While some people choose to travel in the summer, from March to May, when they can enjoy the sight of verdant meadows, others choose to travel on an adventurous route in the winter, from December to February, when the lake is nearly frozen and the entire area is blanketed in thick layers of snow. The breathtaking view of the entire area blanketed in a thick layer of snow makes the winter months more appealing overall.
Because of the safety risks related to the monsoon season, it is not advisable to travel during the months of June through August.

Mandi, aside from Parashar, is a charming tiny town with a number of historic temples. To explore the areas close to the GHNP, you can travel towards Aut or visit Barot, etc. If not, you can take a bus to Karsog and visit places like Kamru Nag, Shikari Devi, and Chindi. To stay on the safe side, some of these require treks, so avoid the height of the monsoon.

There are two government-run guest rooms, a temple-run Dharamshala, and a few campsites at Prashar Lake that offer lodging.

HOW TO REACH

The closest airport to Panarsa is Bhuntar, from which taxis may be hired to get to Panarsa. Although Delhi is regarded as a general starting point, there are no direct trains that go to Panarsa; however, the three closest stations, Kalka (223 km), Ropar (253 km), and Pathankot (204 km), have well-established connectivity. Additionally, the roads are well-built, and there is a well-established connection all the way to Lake Parashar. The location is highly accessible due to the availability of busses. Buses that go directly to Bhuntar are widely accessible. The buses that travel to Bhuntar also drop you off in Panarsa, where your amazing adventure really starts.
