Tucked away in the Garhwal Himalayas, Chopta, often known as the “mini Switzerland” of Uttarakhand, is a slice of beauty at an approximate elevation of 2,608 meters. Encircled by velvety meadows or bugyals and immaculate snow-capped peaks, Chopta is a year-round vacation spot that is delightful in the summer, refreshing in the monsoon, and a snow-covered wonderland in the winter.

The Panch Kedar, the state’s five holiest Shiva temples, has its epicenter at Chopta. The temples of Kedarnath and Madmaheshwar are situated on its left, Rudranath and Kalpeshwar are on its right, and the Tungnath temple is directly above it. More than 240 different species of birds can be seen in Chopta, a haven for birdwatchers. Native and migratory species such as the Himalayan monal, Himalayan swiftlet, Himalayan griffon, scarlet finch, hill partridge, and others can be seen here. The greatest locations for observing our feathered companions are nearby locations like Dugalbitta, Mandal village, Makkumath, and the Tungnath hike path. National and international organizations dedicated to biodiversity and conservation have designated Chopta as an important bird-watching location.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Chopta is a great place to visit all year round, but most visitors come here to escape the heat. If you’re an adventurer, though, a winter hike through this area would be amazing. The temperature is temperate and the summers are particularly lovely with a cool breeze. However, winter brings below-freezing temperatures and a blanket of snow covering the entire area. The months of April through June and September through November are the ideal times to explore Chopta.
